NVCA is linking scores of entrepreneurs with venture capitalists for an afternoon of intensive mentoring and business plan vetting. The goal: Get a new generation of entrepreneurs on track to build tomorrow’s game-changing companies. VCs and entrepreneurs can make connections through roundtable discussions, scheduled, on-on-one mentoring sessions and a networking break.

This year we’re making some improvements to the format:

One-on-one meetings. This year, we’re asking participating entrepreneurs to identify, in advance, one specific business challenge that they would like guidance from VCs in overcoming. (The intent of the participating venture capitalists will be to offer mentoring regarding operational challenges facing entrepreneurs – not to “source deals.” As such, they cannot offer advice concerning investments or specific steps for raising capital from investors.)

Roundtables. In addition to the one-on-one mentoring sessions, VCs and entrepreneurs will break out into smaller group discussions in which topics will focus on challenges shared by startups and other players in the innovation ecosystem.

Networking. Like last year, participants will have unlimited access to our networking area, where they can mingle informally with VCs and other attendees.

For Venture Capitalists:

To participate in VS Office Hours 2.0, venture firms must be NVCA members and have at minimum one partner registered for VentureScape. Venture capitalists will receive their schedule of meetings in early May.  We invite up to three partners per firm to join in our meeting space and networking lounge.  If you are interested in participating as an NVCA member firm, please e-mail Laura Cruz at laura@tenorcom.com.

For Entrepreneurs

Admission to office hours is by invitation only.  Entrepreneurs can secure passes through one of the many business accelerators and incubators partnering with us for this program.  Alternatively, you can apply for a pass by completing information here. There is no cost to participate, and entrepreneurs from outside the Bay Area have the opportunity to secure complimentary airline tickets courtesy of American Airlines.

For questions or comments, please contact Laura Cruz

As part of this process, we’ll ask you what specific business challenge you would like help with solving (aside from “securing funding” – see above.) Then, we’ll try to match you with appropriate firms for at least two formal mentoring sessions.
